FOCUSING ON ORPHANS AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN IN TIMES OF NEED (COVID-19)

BY

LADY HELEN CHILD HEALTH FOUNDATION (LHCHF)

COVID-19 Pandemic outbreak in Nigeria has been a part of a global crisis which unfortunately has made the vulnerable in the society more vulnerable especially in these desperate times of needs. As Nigeria is currently dealing with the challenges of this pandemic by implementing advice from the WHO and the Nigerian Government.

This prompted the Lady Helen Child Health Foundation (LHCHF) to carry out a time sensitive survey among orphanages in the Federal Capital Territory to determine their current awareness of COVID-19, government awareness messages, satisfaction and confidence with government material support during restricted movement.

The outcome of the survey showed that the Federal Government conditional cash transfer to the most vulnerable and the poor as a palliative for restricting movement and enforcing the staying at home directive did not put the orphanage homes into consideration. Hence, the current government mechanism for palliative appears not to be having cognizance of the Orphans and Vulnerable Children in the Orphanage home.

The Lady Helen Child Health Foundation is aware that the Government cannot do it all alone and as part of the Objective of the Foundation to reach out to Orphans and Vulnerable Children will be offering:
